From Sprue to Glory: Painting My First Warhammer 40k Miniature

My First Warhammer 40K Miniature

Over the weekend I picked up an ‘Infernus Marines + Paints’ Space Marine set at a local Games Workshop store. This was a neat little set that I wanted to try putting together and painting as a little bit of an entry into the hobby.

A warhammer 40k Infernus Marines + Paints set.
I had a fun time assembling and painting my first model!
the paint, brushes, and minis pre-assembly.
I was surprised to see all the Space Marines on one kit card, I thought there would be multiple, but the instructions on the back of the box made it make sense.

There are all the little bits! I was worried I was going to cut pieces the wrong way.

As long as you put the pieces of the space marine together in the right order, you can’t possible do it wrong (duh).

Before actually picking up this set, I had my interest piqued by a random video of a guy talking about Warhammer 40K lore. After that, YouTube could tell I found the content interesting and did what any good algorithm would do and started pushing Warhammer 40K content my way. I saw a few more videos from the same author, then some clips from the new Space Marine 2 game, and then somehow I ended up on OnceInASixSide‘s channel and he had a few videos painting minis.

I wanted to try it myself!

This Space Marine first needed a bath in some primer. I used some clear matte primer from Rustoleum before painting so my acrylic paint would actually stick to the model and hopefully look halfway decent. Definitely use spray paint outside! I gave the mini a few passes from a few angles. I brought it in after spray painting it which turned out to be a mistake as it smelled pretty strong of paint for a few hours.

Check out those little figures in the background, should they get painted too? (Let me know)

Time for paint!

It’s time for some blue paint! At first I was using the citadel paintbrush that comes with the set and a ceramic tile I found in my garage.

Here’s a front, back, and side view of the now mostly blue little space marine.

The little nub I have attached him to is a handle I 3D printed off of Printables.com and then stuck my model on there with some sticky tack off of Amazon.

I painted on some of this gold color from the paint kit and thought it was looking awesome! But the more and more I looked I saw little paint splats on parts that I had to fix later.

After repainting some accidental splotches of paint (where I didn’t want paint to be) I ended up with this neat model. Say hello to my first Warhammer 40K Space Marine! Looking forward to the next.
